This initiative enhances user engagement and builds on their previous collaboration. Despite regulatory scrutiny faced by Coinone, the partnership continues to expand the intersection of mobile banking and cryptocurrency services.
KakaoBank, a digital bank in South Korea with over 22 million users, has partnered with Coinone to launch a new cryptocurrency price tracking feature. This tool allows users to monitor real-time prices of cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH), directly within the KakaoBank mobile application.
The newly developed feature ranks cryptocurrencies based on transaction volumes, market capitalisation, and price fluctuations, providing an intuitive platform for users. A KakaoBank spokesperson confirmed the integration aims to enhance the user experience by making cryptocurrency price information more accessible.
This collaboration builds on a previously established partnership between KakaoBank and Coinone. In 2022, they joined forces to enable Coinone users to set up deposit and withdrawal accounts for cryptocurrency activities, marking a significant step towards integrating banking and cryptocurrency services.
Despite this venture, Coinone has faced regulatory challenges. In late 2024, South Korea’s financial watchdog initiated an investigation concerning volatile pricing of Movement’s token, raising alarms about possible unfair trading practices. Following a dramatic price surge of 46,000 times, regulatory scrutiny ensued; however, Coinone has not faced any public allegations of misconduct.
