Ubisoft and Immutable Launch Might & Magic: Fates as a Crypto Trading Card Game

Ubisoft and Immutable announce Might & Magic: Fates, a new TCG leveraging Immutable’s zkEVM chain, continuing the franchise’s legacy by featuring hundreds of collectible NFT cards. The TCG market shows robust competition and potential profitability, with further gameplay and preregistration information to come, alongside a non-crypto prequel release.

Ubisoft, partnered with Immutable, is reviving the Might and Magic franchise through a new trading card game (TCG) titled Might & Magic: Fates. This announcement follows speculation regarding Immutable’s future developments. Originally from New World Computing and 3DO, the Might and Magic series has deep roots dating back to 1986, with Ubisoft acquiring the rights in 2003 for $1.3 million during 3DO’s bankruptcy.

Trading card games are particularly suitable for crypto integration due to the NFT nature of cards, permitting players to buy, collect, and trade digital items. Unlike larger team-based games or battle royales, TCGs facilitate quick matchups in 1v1 formats and don’t require proximity between players, thus optimising gameplay efficiency.

Commercially, TCGs are lower-cost alternatives to expansive 3D environments seen in MMORPGs. For instance, Blizzard’s Hearthstone has generated over $900 million in game revenue, proving lucrative for developers. Immutable reported earnings of $110 million in 2024, illustrating the potential of this sector, which also involves notable competitors like Axie Infinity and Gods Unchained.

The game will harness Immutable’s zkEVM chain, as stated by Andrew Sorokovsky, Immutable’s VP of Business Development. The release promises hundreds of unique cards featuring various creatures and characters. A teaser cinematic shared by co-founder Robbie Ferguson highlights an armoured skeleton animated by green magic, building anticipation. Further gameplay details and pre-registration information are expected soon.

Additionally, Ubisoft will release a separate non-crypto title in the Might and Magic series, called Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era, anticipated to launch within this year.
