MicroStrategy Buys $1.42 Billion in Bitcoin; Stock Outshines Tech Rivals

MicroStrategy has acquired 15,355 BTC for $1.42 billion, bringing total holdings to 553,555 BTC. CEO Michael Saylor insists on Bitcoin’s potential in finance, while MSTR stock has outperformed major tech giants, seeing a recent 28.09% increase.

MicroStrategy (MSTR) has bolstered its dominance in the corporate Bitcoin landscape by acquiring an impressive 15,355 BTC for about $1.42 billion, a move driven by its chairman, Michael Saylor. Announced on April 28th, this purchase pushes MicroStrategy’s total Bitcoin holdings to a remarkable 553,555 BTC, amassed at an estimated cost of $37.90 billion with an average price point of $68,459 per Bitcoin.

As of April 27, 2025, MicroStrategy reported a year-to-date Bitcoin yield of 13.7%, reflecting the success of its digital asset strategy amid Bitcoin’s rising value. Currently, Bitcoin is trading at roughly $94,725 with a slight daily increase of 0.89% and a noteworthy weekly growth of 7.44%, according to CoinMarketCap.

Saylor, a fervent Bitcoin supporter, predicts a future where Bitcoin is adopted widely in the traditional finance sector, envisioning banks offering loans against Bitcoin holdings. Furthermore, he suggests that the U.S. government could eventually retain Bitcoin as part of its reserves, while major technology firms might integrate the currency into their services and everyday gadgets, like smartphones.

In a striking contrast to traditional tech stocks, MicroStrategy’s stock has significantly outperformed both major tech companies and the market overall in the last three months. MSTR has achieved a 6% return, while tech giants such as NVIDIA (-6%), the S&P 500 (-8%), Microsoft (-10%), and Google (-15%) all reported losses in the same timeframe.

Currently, MicroStrategy’s stock price has reached $369.25, a substantial rise of $80.98 or 28.09% within the last month. This surge is indicative of the market’s strong confidence in both the rising Bitcoin values and MicroStrategy’s bold acquisition strategies.
