GSR’s Chief Strategy Officer, Josh Riezman, discusses the company’s regulatory achievements and strategies regarding cryptocurrency. GSR has secured key approvals in the UK and Singapore and is committed to supporting the next generation of crypto innovations. Riezman highlights the importance of regulatory clarity, risk management, and integration with DeFi technologies as part of GSR’s strategy moving forward.

In light of the rapidly evolving cryptocurrency landscape, Josh Riezman, the Chief Strategy Officer at market-maker GSR, recently shared insights on how regulations and risks are shaping the future of digital assets. He will be speaking at Consensus 2025 between May 14-16, where he will elaborate on the firm’s strategies. Notably, GSR, regarded as a frontrunner in market structure and compliance, has secured key regulatory approvals from the U.K.’s Financial Conduct Authority and Singapore’s Monetary Authority.

Riezman highlighted the importance of regulatory certainty, particularly within the United States, calling it a major hurdle for market makers. Addressing how GSR navigates these challenges, he remarked, “We’re always proactive with regulatory bodies globally.” According to him, adherence to best practices has placed GSR at the forefront of compliance within the cryptocurrency trade sector.

The firm has shown strong commitment to regulatory compliance by adopting frameworks in jurisdictions like Singapore and the U.K. Riezman points out, “This is just the beginning of our journey,” emphasising GSR’s plans to continuously adapt to emerging regulations as they materialise.

As conversations steer towards the future, Riezman looks to the near-term challenges, stating that regulatory clarity is vital for unlocking investment in the cryptocurrency space. He sees positive trends in certain markets, specifically in Singapore and Europe, where the regulatory environment is becoming clearer, which could lead to similar advancements in the U.S.

Speeds and innovation in technologies such as decentralized finance (DeFi) do not go unnoticed at GSR. The firm is integrating various DeFi models into its offerings, looking to enhance its capabilities with key platforms and automated market makers (AMMs). Riezman described GSR as being at the cutting edge, especially with hybrid models increasingly gaining traction.

GSR’s seasoned presence in the market, which spans over time, plays a large part in how it maintains stability despite volatility. Riezman explained their risk management framework as crucial to their survival during turbulent times. He stated, “Our deep commitment to risk management has carried us through,” and suggested their business ethos embraces volatility as part of the cryptocurrency industry.

On improving liquidity, GSR is intensifying its advisory services, aiding clients through challenging market conditions by sharing invaluable expertise and connections. This proactive approach is what Riezman believes will benefit their clientele the most.
