bunq Launches Crypto Investing Feature in Banking App

bunq launches bunq Crypto, allowing users to invest in over 300 cryptocurrencies. Initially available in select European countries, the service plans to expand to the US and UK. The move addresses user demand for a centralized platform for banking and crypto investments. Other app updates include bunq Deals and Pocket Money, enhancing the customer experience.

bunq, the Netherlands-based neobank, has rolled out bunq Crypto, a newly launched feature that allows users to dive into the cryptocurrency market via its banking app. As of now, customers in the Netherlands, France, Spain, Ireland, Italy, and Belgium can start trading crypto. There’s a plan in place to expand this feature to the rest of the European Economic Area and eventually to the US and the UK, where bunq has also sought operational licenses.

The introduction of bunq Crypto comes amid a surge in user interest for a more straightforward approach to investing in digital assets. Traditional platforms often present a maze of complexities. With bunq’s backing as a licensed bank, users can easily open accounts and trade from a selection of over 300 cryptocurrencies, including the likes of Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana, thanks to a partnership with professionals in digital asset security.

Research conducted by bunq has highlighted a notable disconnect in the market: 65% of European global citizens expressed a desire for a one-stop solution for managing their banking, savings, and cryptocurrency investments. Moreover, about half of the survey participants showed interest in crypto investment, yet existing platforms seemed to fall short of their expectations. bunq Crypto aims to address this gap, providing a user-friendly option for those keen on getting into cryptocurrency.

In conjunction with bunq Crypto’s launch, the company unveiled several other app updates. One noteworthy feature is bunq Deals, which offers discounts from partners like LEGO, Expedia, Surfshark, Sixt, Booking.com, and Notion. This update caters not just to expats but also to parents and entrepreneurs looking for savings. Another recent addition is Pocket Money, facilitating parents to make regular payments into their child’s account.

Additionally, bunq rolled out bunq Points in December 2024. This loyalty programme encourages everyday spending by rewarding customers in a way that suits the varied needs of digital nomads and daily users alike, giving them better control over their financial life. Overall, these improvements reflect bunq’s commitment to adapting its services in line with user demand and market trends.
