Bitcoin Slips Below $104K as U.S.-China Tariff Tensions Rise
Bitcoin fell below $104K, with the crypto market declining due to renewed U.S.-China tariff tensions. Key digital assets took a hit, and concerns over stalled trade talks prompt risk aversion among investors. Stocks also dropped, reflecting broader market unease amid geopolitical strife.
Bitcoin prices suffered a noticeable drop, slipping below $104,000, as uncertainties over U.S.-China trade relations emerged once again. The digital currency fell 2.1%, contributing to a wider decline in the cryptocurrency market, including a 4.2% drop in the CoinDesk 20 index. Bitdeer, a major player in bitcoin mining, saw its shares tumble by 8.3%, continuing a volatile trend since its peak during last month’s gains.
Traders and investors are on edge today, with concerns about renewed tariff-related turmoil making headlines. This downward spiral followed accusations from President Donald Trump claiming that China had breached a recent tariff agreement. The fallout hasn’t just affected crypto; major stock indices, too, felt the heat, with the S&P 500 down by 1% and Nasdaq plummeting 1.5%. Gold, traditionally seen as a safe haven, is also showing weakness, down 0.7%.
The situation escalated after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent divulged to Fox News that discussions between the U.S. and China had stagnated. This prompted a sharp response from China, which called for the U.S. to correct its “erroneous actions” and cease what it described as discriminatory restrictions. This deterioration of relations comes after a somewhat stabilising period in May, when improved trade expectations allowed risk assets, including Bitcoin, to surge.
Now, many in the market are wondering if the previously reached heights can be regained. The fresh tensions between the two economic giants cast a long shadow over Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, risking their recent record highs. Investors are closely monitoring the situation, fearing that if this escalates further, it could lead to more significant losses in the crypto space and beyond.
