Impact of AWS Outage on Major Cryptocurrency Exchanges

A recent outage of Amazon Web Services led to significant disruptions for major crypto exchanges, including Binance, which temporarily suspended withdrawals. KuCoin and MEXC experienced similar issues. AWS confirmed the problem was resolved shortly afterwards, but concerns about trading anomalies persist among exchanges.

On the morning of the outage, Amazon Web Services (AWS) experienced power issues in the Singapore region, which began at 08:15 am. This disruption significantly affected Binance, the largest cryptocurrency exchange, prompting them to suspend withdrawals at 09:07 am. Binance cited a need to ensure user safety following a temporary network interruption at the AWS data centre.

Withdrawals on Binance resumed shortly after, around 09:15 am. Other exchanges, including KuCoin and MEXC, also faced similar disruptions around 09:00 am. These exchanges have not provided updates on their situation post-outage, indicating ongoing issues.

Rabby Wallet, a crypto wallet service, also reported interruptions but has since returned to near full functionality. Additionally, DeBank faced periods of unavailability during this time. MEXC warned that the AWS outage could lead to irregular candlestick charts, issues with order cancellations, and delays in transfers for spot trading, though futures trading remained unaffected.

Around 08:51 am, AWS announced that the underlying issue had been resolved and that services were operating normally, reassuring users that such disruptions were not expected to recur. Efforts to contact Binance, MEXC, and KuCoin for further comments are ongoing. Updates will follow, as developments unfold.
