Binance temporarily suspended withdrawals due to an AWS outage affecting crypto services. The issue lasted approximately 23 minutes. Other exchanges like KuCoin and MEXC also reported disruptions, with assurances of asset security and ongoing recovery efforts.
On Tuesday, cryptocurrency exchange Binance experienced a temporary halt in its withdrawal services due to an outage at an Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centre. A brief communication on X indicated that withdrawals would be suspended for security reasons, before notifying users approximately ten minutes later that the service had resumed. The interruption lasted around 23 minutes according to Binance’s representatives.
AWS confirmed a “connectivity issue” occurred in its Tokyo cloud region at 1.15 a.m. PDT (0815 GMT) and was resolved by 1.51 a.m. PDT (0851 GMT). An AWS spokesperson reassured that the service was functioning normally after the problem was addressed.
In addition to Binance, the cryptocurrency exchange KuCoin reported facing temporary disruptions also linked to the AWS outage. Their technical team was swiftly addressing the issue, stating that all user assets remained secure while the recovery process continued. KuCoin indicated they would provide updates on the restoration timeline separately.
Crypto exchange MEXC attributed certain user issues including “abnormal candlestick charts” and “failed order cancellations” to the AWS disruption. They clarified that all user assets remained secure and expressed their commitment to compensating any users who experienced losses as a result of the platform issues related to AWS’s outage.
